once I was young and strong
tethered by a vein
nourished by a great Oak
warming my face in the Sun
the days were long
the rustle of laughter rang out all around me
as the wind caressed me and my kin
strong and invincible I thought I was
as I proudly shone bright green
but the winds of time grew stronger than I
I swayed in fear and clung tightly
the sun became weak
my skin reddened
and frayed
the rains came incessantly
finally I had to let go
I fell on the cold hard ground
I lay with my dying kin
giving life anew to the great Oak
a little of me still remains in its roots
as spring dawns
I unfurl
see my brightness anew.
