3: My City Burns

My City Burns – As the London riots happened…..

by Jane Meme on Tuesday, 9 August 2011 at 10:12

Heartbroken I face the new day

My City Burned last night as people in their beds lay

What have we become?

How did it come to this?

A generation we have failed

A generation which now has to be bailed

Did we fail to teach them the value of human life?

Did we just teach them nothing but strife?

Did the schools fail to enforce the value of discipline

Did we mollycoddle them? Families all dysfunctional

Watching their faces on the News

This to them all is a Muse!

So young! All I see in their eye is Trouble

If you get in our way we will give you Double

Roaming the streets are feral Gangs

Breaking, looting, smashing not any guilty Pangs

We make excuses for the root Cause

But how can we say this was just Because

If you ask the family that has lost their Home

Where the louts freely Roam

For this there is no rhyme, there is no Reason

For mindless looting and vandalism it seems to be the Season.

My City which is so dear to Me

Burns so fiercely, it is totally heartbreaking to Me

do you think so? it was a seriously emotional day that day. Shocking that in a matter of hours lives and livelihoods would be completely ruined.
