TPR3 Chap 13- Totally her own woman.
She stared at the screen determined not to show any emotion as she saw herself being pulled along by Deepak as if she was watching a film in which she was playing a part, completely detached from the reality of what she was seeing. She watched the moment Aamir intervened and then Maan had shown up.
Pinky coughed from next to her as they watched her planting kisses on Maan’s face and asking him to take his shirt off, and it went on from there as she watched him effortlessly pick her up and carry her to the office they were sitting in now, all the while she watched herself smiling at him with a goofy smile, planting kisses on his jaw.
Everybody was being very polite about what they were watching on screen and her jaw ached from holding her expression so emotionless.
What she wanted to do was pummel Deepak for touching her, for trying to kidnap her, for thinking he still had a hold over her, for putting a drug in her system. She was going to track him down and go after him and this time put him away for good. The evidence was there to allow her to that. She was angry, downright furious but she could and had control over where to go from here with Deepak. She knew she would put him in jail sooner or later. Deepak she could handle.
What actually terrified her more was how she had been around Maan Singh Khurana. It was unbelievable how completely she had lost her inhibitions around him.
She couldn’t even look him in the face now. Was it totally the drug or was that what her unconscious mind wanted with him? Did she really find him that sexy, of course she did she decided. Who wouldn’t, she wasn’t alone, she knew droves of women lined up to try and get close to him. True that the man was dynamite but she had always been in control of her emotions even when other handsome, rich men had wanted a relationship. She had felt nothing for any of them. So what was it about Maan that made her lose all control. She just wasn’t herself at all around him drugged or otherwise. More than Deepak the way she became around Maan terrified her. More to the point she did she want to be on a list of Maan Singh Khurana’s has been girlfriends?
No…No…No! She had more self respect than that.
He watched her closely, outwardly she was holding it together incredibly well, even Pinky was saying how together she was. He wasn’t fooled, one look into her stormy amber eyes told him the deep impact this was having on her. Seeing that scumbags face and what could have potentially happened had shaken her world and then to see herself lose control around him had added to that. He surmised that the latter was causing her more trouble the way she avoided his gaze.
“Geet you know who it is…”
Pinky didn’t get further than that as Geet kicked her under the desk.
“Ouch!” Wide eyed and mad Pinky glared at her, but she stopped saying what she had been about to.
Aamir and Maan watched the interaction between the two with interest. It was quite obvious that Geet didn’t want them to know who it was even though she knew.
Maan nudged Aamir, his head inclining to the data stick.
“Errr Geet, of-course I will give you a copy of the footage, you can take it to the police, we will come with you to add to the evidence.” Aamir said putting a data stick into his laptop and downloading the incriminating footage and handing it to her.
“No need, we can manage from here.” Geet hastily said, “Thank you Aamir.” Geet nodded gratefully to him and rose to take her leave thanking them all. Her eyes pointedly ignoring Maan’s dark gaze. So difficult to do when all her instincts were screaming at her to look at him, see into his eyes and understand what he was thinking, about her, and about what they had just seen on the screen.
“Maan, yaar you didn’t even say anything? Didn’t you want to know who that man was?” Aamir chastised with incredulity as they watched on screen Pinky and Geet make their way through the nightclub, past the cleaners and staff tidying the place and out the front door.
“Aamir this is not the time.” His dark eyes felt her pain. Felt her searching for answers, from him, from herself. Last night he had done the same. He had been so angry that she wouldn’t tell him the name of the scumbag. Wouldn’t let him in so he could help her. Why did she have to be so absolutely stubborn?
Any other woman would have wanted his help. Insisted on using his resources and money. He was sure that if it had been Sabrina in Geet’s place she would have insisted on it. Made sure he had security in place to guard her day and night, and rightly so.
So what was Geet playing at? Was she being coy, playing him so she could have him eat out of hand later? Playing hard to get? Did she really dislike him that much that she didn’t want anything to do with him? Was he being arrogant to think there was something between them when their wasn’t?
He had thought deep and hard and came to the conclusion that Geet was totally different to any woman he had known. She didn’t care that he had resources, that he had money. She was her own woman. Her self respect shone through. He admired her inner strength immensely and arrogant or not there was something between them, something so tangible he could feel it even now. The moments between them they had shared last night had been incredible, he had seen her arousal, her surprise at her reaction, there was no way he was going to let that go without exploring it further.
No this was not the time, his fingers sought out her glasses deep in his pocket as they did more and more now when he was thinking about her. He would let her gather herself before he found some way to get her to trust him.
“Aamir thank you for your help, for everything, we couldn’t have done it without you.” Maan thanked him sincerely. “As for catching him, I have some clues to who he might be I am going to investigate further and see, but I will let you know especially if he is connected with Sharma’s men you will have to be careful in your club.”
“I have asked the security and staff, especially the bar staff to be extra vigilant tonight make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else in the club.”
Maan nodded, “I will see you, I have to get back to the office.”
Aamir nodded shaking Maan’s hand and embracing him in a bear hug. “If Geet’s ex does show up again I will let you know straight away.”
Maan nodded leaving the club. Aamir saying ‘Geet’s ex’, didn’t sit well with him. Did Geet really have a relationship with such a scumbag. He couldn’t imagine it at all, still he wasn’t about to judge her past. He was more concerned with Geet’s future and how it would fit in with his.
“Geet why did you kick me in there?” Pinky sulked whilst rubbing her injured leg in the rickshaw they were taking back home. “And why were you so cold with Maan Singh Khurana, if it hadn’t been for him…” leaving it unsaid Pinky glared at Geet.
“Pinky I wasn’t being cold…just careful. I don’t want to involve Maan in our business.” More to the point she didn’t want to be around him anymore than necessary she could afford to lose herself again like that.
“He is involved whether you like it or not.” Pinky’s bright pink head dipped down grabbing her giant bag, she rummaged in the bottom finally locating a bar of chocolate and a water bottle.
“Thank god for this!” Unwrapping it with glee she offered a bite to Geet and upon her refusal proceeded to chomp through the whole thing in one go.
“Waff of Deefak attfaacks foo?”
“What?” Perplexed Geet stared at her friend as she tried to chew her huge mouthful. Still she was happy that Pinky had dropped the subject of Maan.
Swallowing it and taking a gulp of water Pinky turned back to Geet. “What if Deepak attacks you? I think you should start having some self defence classes.”
“Self defence? Pinky really I don’t need such a thing. We are Delhi girls we can take on an army single handed.” she joked.
“Wahi tou hai we can give a good tight slap when needed,” Pinky said pulling up her sleeves, “but I am serious Geet, there are some classes I know near that junction ahead of the DBC studios. I think you should check them out.”
She had already got to a purple belt in Karate, she didn’t bother to enlighten Pinky. It had become imperative to learn some form of martial art after the beatings Deepak had given her when she hadn’t been able to defend herself and she had insisted that the twins take it up as soon as they enrolled into boarding school too, but she abhorred violence so did not make a big deal of knowing a martial art. Maybe it would be good to have refresher classes now although she was sure Deepak would have slunk back into hiding by now.
“I will them check out,” then her face fell. “Pinky how are we to afford classes when we have had no work since that blasted award ceremony? We have this months rent but what about next month?”
“Stop!” Pinky moaned at her ever the optimist. “Stop meri Maaaaa! Something will turn up. They can’t let such a winning team collect dust for too long. Ramu told me just last night at the club that the DBC news ratings had dropped like a lead balloon since boy wonder Jignesh started, in fact he said he overheard Chakravaty begging the Board to bring us back before DBC loses it whole audience to other channels.”
“Wow! That is indeed good news!”
“I am telling you we will get a call from the desk very soon. Now Geet can we go have lunch I am famished.” She put on her best puppy face.
“Yesssssss, meri maaaaaaaa!” Geet mimicked Pinky’s funny antics, her worries banked for the moment. “Lets go eat and then while we have time look around the mall, there is a book I want from the bookshop there.” Then she remembered. “Err Pinky you sly woman tell me about you and Ravi!”
“Ravi who?” Pinky smiled a huge naughty smile.
“Shut up Pinky! Ravi you know who! What happened between you two?”
“He is cute I have to admit, and very bright and funny.” Her eyes held a dreamy far away look.
“Pinky!” Geet rolled her eyes and urged her on.
“OK OK! Yeah I could totally go for him. He is super cute!”
“Are you seeing him again?”
“I don’t know, with all that happened last night we didn’t get around to arranging anything.”
“Did you at least take his contact?”
“Err no.” Pinky replied with regret.
“My love life is doooommmed Geet! Doomed! Sunk before it even started!”
Geet laughed heartily as Pinky started moaning and groaning about her love life. She decided she would find Ravi’s number for her, it was the least she could do.
Hours later they headed home after lunching and browsing around the shopping mall.
Deepak heaved a sigh of relief. “Saali took all bloody day to show me where she lives! I am going make her pay for every rupee I spend chasing her around Delhi.” He muttered to himself. “I knew today they would come back to the club to look at the camera film. I am sure she won’t be going to the police because she thinks I would have gone into hiding.” He laughed loudly making his rickshaw driver turn around to give him a funny look.
“Aage dekh saala!” he yelled a him. “Yesterday she got away from me but now I know where she lives I will not let her get away so easily next time.” He said nodding his head to the passing blur of buildings.
“I have great plans for her, what a beauuuuutyyy!”
Adi glared at Ravi, he was being so coy with her.
“And then what happened?”
“Not much we went to where they live, but there was the mother of all parties going on, I tell you those people were having such a blast!”
“Ravi!” Adi ground her teeth knowing he was deliberately stringing it out.
“OK OK – well then Maan Sir said to drive to the Khurana Mansion and he carried her into the annex…”
“Annex? Annex kyu?”
“Apparently that’s where he stays at the moment.”
“Huh? I thought he was staying with his daadima?” Adi frowned. She knew Maan was so close to his daadima so why was he staying in the annex. She put that aside for the moment.
“Wellll…” Ravi reeled her back in.
“Get on with it smartass.” Adi threw a pencil at him playfully.
“He carried her upstairs and put her to bed.”
“Wow and all the time she didn’t wake up?”
“Oh she did wake up from time to time and said the most outrageous things to Maan.”
Adi’s eyes became round with interest.
“She asked him why he hadn’t taken his shirt off a few times.” Ravi grinned.
“Whoaaa!” Adi pushed her chair back from the desk and jumped up with excitement.
“How did the boss take it?”
“Frankly I have never seen him like that.” Ravi reflected.
“Caring, protective, gentle.”
Adi smiled, completely the opposite of what he had been like with Sabrina. She had liked Geet on the spot, after Sabrina’s stink she was like a breathe of fresh air, literally.
The man of their thoughts walked into to the office casting a critical eye over everyone as they hurriedly put their heads down. She nudged Ravi to look through the glass of the office partition, Maan was looking lost in thought then a grin broke out on his face.
They both gasped in shock. Maan sir smiling?
He saw them both staring a him through the glass and walked towards them.
“Adi in the information you complied on Geet was there a mention of a Deepak?”
Straight to the point, no messing. Adi hid a smile, so he had been thinking of Geet how interesting. “Err not that I can think of at the top of my head.”
“Hmm….dig around more, I want to know about how he fitted into the picture.” It had to be somewhere not too long ago he thought.
“Adi its important to know.” His eyes dark and intense as he thought about what could have happened to her. He would put his resources to use even if she didn’t like it.
That meant budget was no problem Adi thought. She grinned at Ravi, this was indeed a different Maan they were seeing.
“Who is this?” Geet muttered sleepily into her mobile unhappy to be woken from being in Maan’s arms.
“Arey madam aap bhool gaye hum ko? Mein Ramcharran.” Came the plaintive voice.
Sitting up in bed she rubbed her eyes peering at the clock beside her bed. It was four in the morning. Ramcharran…Ramcharran…she tried to place him.
“Madam woh eliens wala!”
“For god’s sake who is that at this time of the morning?” Pinky moaned from under her pillow.
“Have you seen any more eliens..er aliens Ramcharran you know I told you there is no market in that story.”
A loud hiccup in her ear had her frowning.
“Are you drunk?”
“No no..madamji saachi…not a drop! Bas a little weed now and then.”
Geet rolled her eyes, stretched lazily pulling her duvet closer around her, at least Ramcharran was honest she had to give him that.
“So tell me why did you call.”
“Last night madamji,” Ramcjarrans voice became very excited.
“Haan last night?”
“Geet put the phone down or you will be seeing eliens too.” groaned Pinky.
Geet slunk down a little in the bed settling herself more comfortably not yet ready to put the phone down on Ramcharran’s excited voice.
“Last night Sharma came to the basti, you know madamji elections are coming up.”
“Haan…” Sharma was everywhere in everyone’s faces at the moment.
“Well I heard Sharma’s men discussing that they didn’t get a chance to cause chaos with bomb at the hospital because of you and some Maan but they plan to soon somewhere else.”
Jack knifing up to a sitting position Geet almost dropped her phone.
