Chap 1- Obstinate partners!
“M…Maan s…sir that Dan Emmerson ke secretary ka phir se phone aaya tha! They want to make an appointment with you desperately.”
“Uh..uh…” Maan muttered his eyes fixed on Geet through the glass that separated their offices.
“S…SIR!” Adi cried trying to get his attention. Emmerson’s office was driving him mad.
“WHAT?” Maan glared at him ferociously.
Adi jumped back from Maan’s desk as if he had been stung. “Err …D…Dan…I…I …”
“Adi why are you wasting my time?” Maan jumped up his face showing clear signs of serious frustration. “There are enough thick headed people for me to deal with.” His eyes stared at Geet like laser beams, Adi followed his gaze through the glass at Geet who had her back to them and was pointedly ignoring Maan.
“B..But they are demanding a meeting.”
“Demanding? I really don’t like those sort of business clients!”
“India is opening its borders to new businesses they want to get into India’s growing markets especially construction and development and they want to make us their partner, that’s what I have been told …M..Maan sir we should at least m…meet with them to see if there is an opportunity for KC?”
Hands on hips Maan muttered, “OK fix it! But KC or I don’t like that kind of attitude, if they want to do business with us it will be on our terms.”
Adi grinned and turned to walk out, when Maan suddenly blocked his way bearing down on him like a furious dragon.
“Geet is your good friend isnt she, has she said anything to you about it?”
“About .w…w..what?” Adi shrank back in fear.
“Babli’s school! I have been trying to get it into her thick head to put her in the school I have in mind, they will enrol Chotu too, but no she HAS to defy me at every step.”
“Err no she hasn’t said anything to me , b…but maybe she has said something to P…Pinky.”
“Pinky!” Maan muttered under his breath. Grabbing the receiver on his desk and stabbing the numbers furiously he barked into the phone, “PINKY come into my office NOW!”
Geet walked out of her office just as Pinky walked past her muttering something under her breath.
“What’s the matter Pinky?”
“Your Maans SIR suddenly wants to see me!” She grinned at Maan’s thunder cloud of a face through the glass. “Looks like he has swallowed a whole lemon, Geet why don’t you talk to him?”
“What’s the point he is not listening.” her face set, she folded her arms in a defiant pose.
Maan strode out of the office and glared pointedly at Pinky, “Err Pinky I need to see you urgently!”
Geet strode up to him with narrowed eyes.“Maan, why do you want to see her, if its about work I should be there too.”
“Geet there is no need to interfere in my business….” his eyes narrowed on her angry face…”AS you keep telling me!”
“Fine! Have it your way, Pinky I am sure he wants to ask you something very interesting…not!”
Pinky grinned at the two of them, “Evening show ke liye ticket zaroor bechna, it will be a sell out!”
“huh…huh…huh..huh,” Adi laughed.
“Bas all you know is how to shout!” muttered Geet at him.
“If you listened without blowing my head off you will see that what I am saying is right!”
“Uff! I have a meeting, I am going.” Glaring at him she went off back to her office to collect things.
With an exasperated sigh he nodded for Pinky to go into his office. She walked past him and stood near the glass watching Geet collect her things.
“Before you say anything let me just say one thing….Maan I know you love Geet, and you know she is stubborn, infact I think that’s one of the most endearing traits about her you love.”
His eyes darkened at that statement, it was so true,” but Pinky she is wrong in this matter. Babli and Chotu’s future is in question I wont let her atma saman get in the way of giving them the best chance in life I possibly can. After all they are my responsibility too! I love them both.”
“I know you do, and Geet does too, but you have to understand that she feels she is the one who has to bear the cost of their schooling.”
Eyes stormy he turned to Pinky and said, “Somehow, I have to make her see sense.”
“Then you will have to try to convince her in some other way, giving her an ultimatum is not going to work.”
He took a deep breath, yes he knew all that, but how to get past it. Why wouldn’t she accept him for what he was. He had worked hard for his money, just as she did. He had built on his grandparents foundations and made KC what it was today. He had to make her see that.
What had she said to him as she flounced out of their bedroom this morning, ‘Maan I didn’t marry you for you money! I can manage their futures quite well on my earnings.’
When he had married her he thought she had accepted him for all that he was, but obviously she hadn’t, if she had she would not be making such an issue out of the this.
“Err thank you Pinky, I am sorry…I shouldn’t drag you into this.”
“I am quite enjoying it,” Pinky grinned with her own inimitable style, making Adi chuckle again. “Do you want me to speak to Geet? I know what are aiming to do will be good for Babli and Chotu.”
Why didn’t Geet see that! Turning to Pinky with a sigh he said ‘No, I will deal with it.” And this time he was not going to take no for an answer
