Chotu watched Babli push her food around her plate his little face set in a frown. He knew she was still worrying.
“Dont worry! Didi eat your dinner, why aren’t you hungry. Daadima and Nakul uncle has made such lovely dinner, not at all like the awful rubber parathas aunty used to give us!”
Babli turned to look at him as he tucked into his parathas with all the gusto of someone thoroughly enjoying his food. He was right the food was really delicious and she really appreciated daadima and Nakul uncle. But she couldn’t help worrying about what would happen to Chotu once CC told the teachers or his father, she wondered if she should talk to Geet didi about it.
“Nakul uncle please can I have one more!”
“Chotu I have made Gulab jambu for you so don’t overeat your parathas.” Nakul said as gave him one more.
“Gulab jambu! WOW! Thank you Nakul uncle!” Chotu stuffed his paratha into his mouth quickly so he could get to the desert quickly.
“Arrey Chotu eat slowly, chew your food beta,” Daadima smiled at the little boys antics. “And Babli why aren’t you eating dear?”
“She is worried,” Chotu mumbled with a mouth full of food, Babli turned and glared at him.
“Err its nothing, I was just thinking about my maths test tomorrow. Thank you daadima, the dinner is lovely.”
Daadima looked at Babli and then at Chotu who was screwing up his nose and glaring at Babli. Something was up with these two. Casually she said, “Is everything allright at your school Babli?”
Chotu opened his mouth but Babli again kicked him under the table.
“Yes everything is fine daadima, nothing for you to worry about.”
Daadima was about to dig deeper when Geet walked in muttering and cursing under her breath with Maan following closing with a huge scowl on his face.
“Giiiith! Are you listening to a word I am saying? Major Saab said he is sending two men and you are to make sure you let them do their job!”
“Maan if you are not having security neither am I!”
“Fine then! You are not leaving this house!”
She turned on him like a Tigress. “WHAT! Have you gone insane.”
Daadima stood up, stunned at the turn of conversation. “Maan? Geet? What’s going on? Maan is Geet in some danger?”
They both turned at Daadimas concerned voice, to see her and both children looking pale and worried .
“Errr no daadima…Maan was just saying …that…..” she pleaded with her eyes at him to take hold of the conversation
“Yes Major Saab is sending two of his men so Geet can give them some ideas.”
Daadima looked somewhat perplexed “…Ideas? What would security agents want with architectural and design ideas?” She stared at both of them with a frown.
“Errrrr they wanted ideas on where to….errr…”
“Hide security cameras.”.Maan said and then homed in on the idea..”yes how to hide security cameras in houses for security reasons.” he finished lamely avoiding looking at daadima. The look on daadima’s face said she didn’t buy it at all. But glancing at the children and their worried looks she didn’t pursue it at this point.
“Chalo beta wash your hands and lets all eat.” She sat back down with the children and asked Nakul to start serving Maan and Geet. As she looked around the table Daadima saw Chotu was glaring at Babli in exactly the same manner as Maan was glaring at Geet. She grinned to herself Chotu was turning out to be a copy of Maan.
“You know Chotu you are glaring at Babli just like Maan used to glare at his best friend, every time his best friend wouldn’t listen to him.”
“Even now someone still doesn’t listen.” Maan muttered under his breath. He watched the stubborn tilt of her chin as she doggedly didn’t even glance his way, concerning herself only with daadima and the children.
“Geet pass me the salt.”
She looked at his plate, there was not a crumb on it. Her eyes flashed at him. At last he had her attention, he grinned at her with a self satisfied smile, ignore him would she. Well that was not going to happen.
“What are you going to put salt on?” Chotu asked completely puzzled at what his normally very bright Jiju was doing.
He was just about to reply when Geet’s phone which was on the table rang, he glanced at the screen it said ‘Saxena’ his simmering anger bubbled back into life.
“Don’t answer it!”
With a annoyed swish of her head she picked up the phone. “Geet!”
“Geet I need to see you tomorrow morning. Its urgent!”
“I cant make it tomorrow I already have an appointment.”
“You better come and see me or I will take you off the job.”
She frowned at the phone, really not liking the tone of his voice, getting up she walked away from the table.
“Mr Saxena, as I said I cant make tomorrow, and what is so urgent that you cant wait.”
“You just come and see me tomorrow!” Saxena reiterated his tone hard and cut the call.
She stood staring at the phone for a minute, what happened to him she wondered and walked back to the table to see Maan angry scowl, He got up muttered his excuses and went into the study. With a heavy heart she slumped down at the table. This whole situation was getting very complicated.. Maan was angry with her, Saxena was being so weird. They still didn’t know who was following them, and why? Maan was worried about her safety, but she was more worried about his. Maybe Pinky was right they should go and see Mrs Chaddha to find some answers. But Maan would never agree to that. She chewed her lip her mind trying to work out how she was going to get around that.
Quickly she sorted out the children and got them ready for bed. Her mind occupied with how she was going to reason with Maan. Tonight she would make him see Saxena was just another client. She would play it cool and then….
“Didiiiii…if someone is being horrible to someone, and someone else helps is that a bad thing?”
“No of-course not,” Geet said absently, not noticing the level of seriousness that both the children were showing this issue. “It a good thing helping someone with their problem.”
“Fine see…I told you!” Chotu climbed into his bed with a smile at Babli.
“But what if that person hits the other person to prove his point?”
“No, that’s not a good thing! Violence is not the answer.” Geet advised tucking Babli into bed. “Now you two go to sleep. Night night.”
As soon as Geet was out of the room Babli hissed at Chotu. “See I told you! What if you get into trouble?” Babli worried her brow pleating.
“Huh! I don’t care! CC is a bully and if he hurts you I am going to break his nose! Goodnight!”
Maan paced his study and then with a determined step took the stairs two at a time to their bedroom. She was still putting the children to bed, he could hear them chattering. Striding into the shower he washed quickly. Tonight he was going to make her see sense, even if had to pin her to bed and keep her there! He glared into the distance, he didn’t want Saxena within two meters of her! He came out of the bathroom and saw her walking in.
Heat pooled in her lower belly. Why did he have to look so edible? Bare torso, water dripped off his chest. Joggers rested low on his hips. She had to stop herself from just going over to him and begging him to make love to her. No, she wouldn’t let that happen until she had sorted out his issue with her and Saxena. With a gulp and a determined glint in her eye she walked past him, ignoring him she went to her cupboard and pulled out a nightdress and flounced off to the shower.
He glared at her vanishing back, again she was ignoring him. Perplexed he looked around the room and suddenly an idea came into his mind. A crooked sexy and completely dust danav smile lit his face. He stood leaning with his back to the door. Now lets see if she could ignore him now!
Geet tried to open the door and found it was firmly shut.
“Huh! Maan this door isn’t opening! Maan!” She pushed against it without any joy.
“Yes my Mishty it wont open until you promise to do what I say!”
His words ‘then you’re not leaving this house’ came back to her.
“Maaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnn!” Her temper boiling she banged against the door. You let me out this instant!”
He stood grinning, this was going to be so much fun!
