TPR2 chap 17 -Maans hobby ;)
Chapter 17- Maan’s hobby!
Turning away from the blazing anger in his eyes Geet said, “haan I don’t think that’s a bad idea at all. We should all sleep in the same room.”
“GITHH!” His tone in her ear was bursting with frustration.
She flashed her annoyance at him, knowing exactly why he wanted to be alone with her. No doubt he was hatching major plot on how to wring her neck. No way she was going to be alone with him after all this madness.
“As you wish but as I said there is plenty of room.” Mrs Chaddha reiterated, glancing from Maan to Geet and back, she grinned these two were really well matched.
They all looked around with trepidation as another loud clap of thunder burst upon the house, all that is except Maan who was full on ready to have a fight with Geet. He didn’t even flinch at the crashing noise.
Pinky’s tummy grumbled loudly as soon as the noise of the thunder subsided. Red faced she stared around, “Sorry! Its just that being scared makes me hungry.”
“Everything makes you hungry Pinky.” Adi grinned trying to lighten the atmosphere.
“Chalo then lets all go and eat, I am also hungry after all that action. There is plenty of food in the house. Even if we are stuck in here for days we will be fine. Pinky please help me up. Molly take the girls into the hen house please.”
Clucking away Molly lead the chickens out of the room presumably to the hen house. As soon as Pinky and Adi helped Mrs Chaddha up and went towards the kitchen Maan grabbed Geet’s elbow and pulled her to him.
“Maan! What are you doing? I should go and help.”
“Geet! You know what I was saying, and yet you agreed to sleep with them?”
“Maan I know exactly why you were saying that and that’s why I agreed to sleep with them.” She glared at him.
“Yes and as usual you are not listening. You didn’t listen before when I told you its not safe to wander around without security. What if those men had achieved their purpose..Geet?” His eyes closed with pain…”you could have been hurt…kidnapped or…” he couldn’t even say any more. Pain filled his face, his eyes closed as he tried to get a grip on his emotions. Although the scene he had come upon had been so mental, that still didn’t take away from the fact that those two men were after Geet.
In the process pulling her arm free from him she stopped dead. There was so much pain in his eyes.
“Maan…please don’t think about it too much. I am fine.”
“No Geet! This time you will listen. Have you any idea what would happen to me if anything were to happen to you?”
Her eyes filled…”I know..”
“NO!” the pain burst from him. “No you have no idea! I would die a thousand deaths.”
“Please Maan..don’t go there…and if we are talking about this, its the same for me. When you are refusing to have security you know I feel the same.”
Her fingers stole around his neck and she pressed herself into him. “Maan..I love you so much.”
“So why did you come alone to this god forsaken place?” His voice sounded so full of incredulity she grinned into his shoulder.
“Mrs Chaddha seemed our best hope as Major Saab didn’t have a clue yet.”
“This mad woman?” he looked down at her as if she had lost her mind.
“Maan, dheere boli she will hear!”
“So what! Listen you know I don’t believe in all this madness.”
“But she said someone from the past, and Singhania is from our past.”
“So you heard…”
“Yes and now I know that the situation is more serious than I thought.”
He leapt on that, “so now you agree?”
“Yes, but only if you have security as well.”
“I will think about it. Waise Maan Singh Khuarana ka reputation ko kya hoga? People will say he cant look after himself!” He smiled down at her.
“Uff Maan! Don’t be so stubborn.”
“Maan! GEET! Come on we are waiting for you.” Mrs Chaddha called from the kitchen.
“Come on lets go and eat…”
“But Geet! You had better make sure we are alone, I am not sleeping with Adi and Pinky!” Glaring at her he set his jaw at a determined angle.
“Maan but they are scared. And to tell you the truth so am I.”
Grinning he pulled her tighter in his embrace, “mein hoon na!” His tone was sultry and low. “You just loose yourself in my embrace, I will make love to you and you will forget everything.”
“Day and night that’s all you think about.”
“Well of-course..making love to you is my favourite hobby.” Suppressing a grin he watched her fume.
“Hobby? So I am a hobby now?”
“Yup a full time hobby which I have to work very hard at!”
“Chaddo!” Pushing him away she walked off to the kitchen in a huff. “And let me tell you I am sleeping with Pinky and Adi.”
“What? The hell you are! Firstly you dragged me to this place and now …” Annoyed beyond the point of endurance he followed her, just about to vent his anger at her.
They entered the kitchen and all eyes turned towards their bickering. Seeing that they were all staring, Maan closed his mouth and sat down on the table in a free place his face dark as the storm clouds.
“Maan, so I was right wasn’t I. You are facing danger from someone from your past. Somebody with an initial starting with S.” Mrs Chaddha pronounced S like ASS making Pinky giggle. She earned a quelling glance from Maan.
“Well actually that’s juat a matter of deduction, if someone was carrying out all this surveillance and going to all this trouble it must have been someone from our past.” Picking a fork he began to eat, just so he didn’t have to speak.
“If you say so Maan, but its all there in the cards.”Mrs Chaddha picked up her spoon and started eating, Pinky and Adi had already started tucking into the parathas and aloo ke sabji. Only Geet wasn’t eating her eyes and face told Maan that she was miles away.
“Geet why aren’t you eating? You didn’t have anything much earlier either.” Mrs Chaddha questioned gently.
Coming back to the present Geet smiled a wane smile, “to tell you the truth I am not that hungry.” She looked at Pinky who was happily tucking away her food, because of her Pinky or Mrs Chaddha could have been hurt or killed, and that didnt take into account the fact that Adi and Maan had been dragged into this.
“No matter, at least eat a little Geet, soon you are going to need all your strength.”
Raisning a brow at that Maan stared at Mrs Chaddha, what did she mean by that? The woman said some very odd things.
“Really?” Pinky questioned between mouthfuls. “Why?”
“Well, as I said these are very bad people, they will stop at nothing to achieve their purpose. Its was all in the cards. Maan you need to keep on your guard at all times.”
Maan muttered into his food, “Well that is quite obvious, I have already insisted on very practical help from a trusted source. If only someone wouldnt be so stubborn and listen for a change.”
“Hmm…..I will do another reading tomorrow and tell give you more clues.” Mrs chaddha offered helpfully.
He glanced up at Geet, “err Mrs Chaddha, tomorrow I intend to leave here as soon as its daylight and walk up to the road, from there I may be able to get us a taxi home.”
“Arrey no need to do all that, by morning everything will be working, trust me. It always is. The house sorts itself out in the night.”
Rolling his eyes at that very insane sounding comment Maan shook his head at Geet.
Still looking miles away, she picked at her food absently.
After eating and clearing up Mrs Chaddha gave them some blankets and pillows, staking them up the stairs she opened up a couple of the rooms showing them where they could sleep. Both rooms were tastefully furnished, each with a huge four poster bed and ample room.
“We will take this room.” Maan glanced at Geet.
“We? Pinky we will sleep here,” she went into the next room.
Adi glanced at Maan, and shook his head, there was no way he was going to ask Maan if he could sleep with him. looking into the other room with the girls he looked at a sofa in the far corner and said, “Pinky, Geet, I..If you don’t mind I will sleep there.” His pale face told them he was positively frightened out of his wits.
“I am really tired Maan I am going to bed.” Saying that she walked into the other room dragging Pinky with with her. Adi shrugged and followed them in.
“Fine!” With a angry final look at her he went into the other room and banged the door shut.
Finally they all settled down to sleep. As they quietened the noises from house seemed to get louder. Doors could be heard opening and shutting. Creaking footsteps could be heard walk up and down the corridor.
“Geet..” hissed Pinky are you asleep. She was fidgeting like mad, trying to get comfortable , but jumping at every small noise.
“Not any more I am not.” Worrying that the men could return.
“Geet those noises…what do you think they are?”
“I don’t know do I! Pinky go to sleep!”
“I c….cant sleep.” Moaned Adi from the far corner, as the wind howled outside loudly. “This place gives me the creeps. I don’t now how Mrs Chaddha lives here!”
“She has got the chickens to protect her. Maybe we should get Molly and chickens to come here.” Pinky sat up in bed her face lightening up at her idea.
“Pinky the chickens can’t save us from bhoooot!” Adi declared, “only praying will save us. Jai hanuman gyan gun sagar……!” Adi started praying very loudly.
Groaning with frustration Geet put her pillow over her head, she wasn’t sure what was worse, sleeping with a fidgety Pinky when she could have been in Maan’s safe arms tonight, or Adi reciting Hanuman chaalisa at midnight.
Maan heard them from next door. He could have told them that it was just the wind making the doors open and close and the creaking was the old water pipes. But he didn’t bother, he was still very annoyed with Geet for going to sleep next door. He missed her soft warm body next to his, he had gotten so used to sleeping spooned up with her or her plastered over him like a heated blanket. Then as he heard Adi cry out ‘Bhoootttttt’ and start reciting ‘Hanuman chaalisa’ and sounding more worried by the minute a smile broke out on his face.
Bhooottttttttt? He would give them bhoot, lots of bhoots. With that thought he silently padded out of bed. That would teach Geet to go and sleep elsewhere.
