Silently he padded back to the kitchen. Earlier he seen exactly what would be useful for this project with a grin he gathered all his items and set to work.
Upstairs Adi was right in the middle of another very loud verse.
“Adi please stop…I cant sleep at all.” Moaning Geet sat up.
“G…eet is that you?” Adi questioned his voice quivering with fear.
Rolling her eyes she said, “Who else would it be?”
“It c..c..could be a bhoot pretending to be you!” Adi stared into the darkness his eyes wide as possible. “Geet, why did you put the candle out?”
“I didn’t, the wind did.” Falling back on the bed with a sigh she lay in the darkness as Adi resumed his loud praying again.
“Adi go to sleep. Pinky is already snoring.”
“Really?” he stopped his verse in astonishment and wondered how Pinky could fall asleep so easily.
“Yes really! Now you go to sleep its already well past midnight.”
“J…just when bhoot love to come out.”
“Uff! Adi just go to sleep! How do you know they arent out already? Looks like Pinky has no such sleep issues.”
Pinky was smiling and grinning in her sleep. “haan yes I will have two burgers…and two fries and yes a diet coke……no Molly…no I wont eat chickens again…..”
Rolling her eyes Geet turned on her side and closed her eyes. She could have been lying in Maan’s arms, against his warm hard strength at this very moment. She cursed herself for being so hasty to jump into arguments with him. Thumping her pillow for the nth time she wondered what he was doing and then groaned out loud at her own stupidity. She was sure he would be fast asleep, nothing much fazed him. She listened to Adi and fervently hoped sleep would claim her quickly.
Downstairs Maan grinned at his handy work, oh yes this was going to be so much fun. With any luck he would make Geet eat her own words and be ready to jump on to him with serious enthusiasm.
Taking his props in his hand he crept up the stairs, then as he got to the top he quietly went and stood outside Mrs Chaddha’s door to ckeck on her. Loud snoring could be heard from inside. Good at least someone was having a peaceful sleep. Softly he went out side Geet’s room and tapped something into his phone.
“WHAT was THAT? “Adi sat up in alarm having just about snoozed off.
“What?” Sleepily Geet asked.
From a distance it sounded like wolves were howling outside.
“Its just the wind.”She clutched her blanket tighter.
“A…and that?” Adi squeaked.
Geet listened.. howling laughter could be heard echoing down the hall outside their room.
“Adi its just the wind, and rain, its sounds like..” She didnt get a chance to finish.
“Just like howling bhoot laughter! Its…laughing at us! Geet!” She could hear Adi shaking around on his sofa from right across the room.
“ADIIIIIIIIIIII! GEEEEETTTT! PINNNNKY!” A voice boomed across their room.
Outside Maan grinned, the ventilation grills in this old house were ideal for sending sound across.
“Bhooottttttt?” Adi asked tentatively.
“Mr BHOOT to you!” declared the deep booming voice.
Adi fell off his sofa in a crumpled heap.
Geet sat up on to her knees, pulled the blanket securely around her. She stared into the darkness trying to make out the various shape in the room. Pinky snorted and turned on to her other side oblivious to the goings on the room.
“K…K..Kaun?K…Kaha ho tum! Adi squeaked.
“Mein yeh ghar ke aatma hoonnnnnnnnnn! I am everywherereree!” The voice boomed.
“G..Gh…Ghar ke aatma? English bolta hai?”Adi puzzled.
“Bewkoof Adi we are modern bhoot!”
“I don’t believe in ghosts.” Geet stated loudly. Maan suppressed a smile he could hear the small quiver of fear in her voice.
“SO! You don’t believe in ghosts! Bewkoof ladki! Mein tujhe kaacha kha jawoonga!”
“Well show yourself then!” She issued a challenge.
Pinky woke with a start. “Why are you all shouting? I was having such a nice dream!”
“P…P..Pinky we are talking to the ghost.”
“GHOST!” Pinky screamed so loud Geet nearly went deaf. By the time Geet recovered from her scream Pinky had borrowed deep into the blanket and all that could be seen of her was a large shaking lump on the bed.
“Uff! Pinky!”Geet pulled at her friend from under the blanket. “Nothing is going to happen.”
“Are you challenging me to appear?” The ghost boomed.
“Geeeeeeeeeet stop challenging the Ghost! No..No please Mr Bhoot go awayyyyy!” Adi pleaded.
Suddenly their door creaked open slowly and very noisily. Geet’s eyes nearly pooped out of her head.
“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE” And a glowing white floating shape appeared in the air.
“Bh…Bh…BHOOOTTTTTTT!”Adi screamed at the top of his lungs. “Jai Hanuman! Jai Hanuman! Bhoot peechas nikat nahi aayeeeeee!” He pulled his blanket over him self like Pinky and shivered with fright.
Geet watched as the ghost moved mid air and fluttered and waved right over her making air waves that touched her hair. Pinky who had been peering from under the blanket screamed and went back under.
“Maan help!” It came out as a squeak
The ghost shook……
“MAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!” Geet screamed with all her might.
Putting his finger into his ear Maan tried to dislodge the scream, he was trying so hard not to laugh he couldn’t stop shaking. If his plan was to work Geet couldn’t find out it was him.
“MAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! WAKE UPPPPPPPP!” Geet screamed shutting her eyes in fright. She wanted so badly to run next door and jump into his safe arms but was too frightened to move. When she peeped again the ghost was no longer there.
Adi was practically screaming Hanuman Chalisa at the top of his lungs now.
“Adi STOP SCREAMING! Its gone! Its gone! Pinky Adi! Its gone!”
With shaking hands Geet rummaged around on the table next to her bed for her phone, turning on her phone light, and looked around in the dark shadows, apart from a shaking frightened Adi in one corner, the room was empty. Quickly and silently she slipped out of bed.
“Wh…where are you going?” Adi and Pinky squeaked together.
“Maan’s room!” With that she ran into the other room and slipped into bed with Maan. Practically smothering him.
“What the!” He growled, trying not to laugh with joy. He had to run pretty fast to get into bed as he knew she would run straight to him.
“Maan..Mr .bh..bh…bhoot!” She shook with terror.
“Dont be silly Geet there is no such thing.” He wrapped his arms tightly around her and let her softness melt over him trying so hard not to laugh.
“Mr Bhoot?” He grinned in the darkness.
“Haan, he said he was Mr Bhoot! I am telling you its this ghar ke aatma, the noises…the creepy door, those thumping noises and we saw a glowing white ghost!”
“Its the just the wind and water pipes.” he mumbled as he rained soft kisses on her face. She was so delicious.
Suddenly their door creaked open and two dark shapes emerged.
Maan squinted into the darkness suddenly he was grabbed by something.
“M…Maan sir! Pl..Please don’t make us sleep alone!”
Adi slipped into bed on one side with Maan and Pinky jumped in and squeezed herself next to Geet. So that they were sandwiched in between.
“NO way!” Maan growled. “You two cant sleep here!” Incredulity laced his voice. This whole plan had been to teach Geet a lesson and he was finally getting her to snuggle against him and now instead of that he was landed with these two as well.
“But SIR! Bhoooooooot! Sorry…sorry..MR BHOOT!” Adi looked around in fright in case the bhoot heard him address him improperly. “They are everywhere! White and glowing and talking too!” Shaking like a leaf Adi threw his leg over Maan in fright clinging to him like a leech.
“ADI! GET OFF ME!”
“S..S….Sorry sir…” Adi pulled away but remained in bed still shaking.
“Geet tell them to go and sleep in their own room!” Maan hissed out.
“I cant, Maan we are all so scared, just lets all sleep here. Look Pinky is already asleep.”
Gentle snoring interlaced with…yes..burger…chaat…could be heard from the other side of Geet.
“What the? She even dreams of food!” He muttered under his breath. Adi had already settled down and made himself comfortable next to him and was pulling at the blanket.
Scowling fiercely into the darkness Maan folded his arms in front of him and resigned himself to his fate. His great plan to get Geet alone had misfired gloriously!
