TPR2 Chap 31 – Waiting is a killer
Hellooooooooooo shellooooooo TPR time again- wow Sunday comes around faster than a lightening bolt! Well here we go – all are doing what they think is right. And stubborn as mules they are all determined. Do read, enjoy and do comment!! Yes even you all silent readers please make the effort as u do from time to time. ;))
The traffic was dire as they drove towards Patel nagar. It slowed them down considerably. By the time they got there it was late evening. People spilled out in the narrow alleys enjoying their evening leisure time. Street food smells wafted through the air, as the car crawled along Maan watched a woman wolf down gol guppas with relish. It made him smile as he thought of his Mishty doing the same and then chastise himself as he remembered he was still very much annoyed with her.
“I think Maan sir we should park up here,” Captain Veer Singh said as they reached a crucial junction from which Hanuman gali started. “Nisha you go towards the other end and I will start from here, we will keep in contact with these.” He pulled out three ear pieces that slipped into the ear and handed them out, placing one in his own ear. “Have your phones on. Once we have triangulated we should be able to pinpoint the exact location of where Singhanias call came from but for the moment it will have to be good old fashioned snooping around.”
“And what am I to do? Puzzled, Maan questioned the Captain. He really didn’t want to be hanging around whilst the action was elsewhere, he wanted to be the one to find him.
“If you could stay here it will cover all the angles, and you will have a brilliant vantage point sir, this is the main junction Singhania would come out from as it has access to rickshaws and such. The other end of Hanuman gali is practically a dead end. If he is looking to run it will be from here.”
“Hmmm Ok I will keep an eye out for him here. “ Maan looked around, the Captain was right this was the business end of Hanuman gali but he still wasn’t happy about being stuck in the car.
“And everyone be careful, backup is coming but with this traffic it could be a while.”
Agent Gupta nodded, and slipped out of the car blending into the crowd quickly. With a nod to Maan the captain too slipped out and started walking fast towards the other end.
“And here I am stuck in the car,” muttered Maan. He could hear the captain asking about where he could get single malt imported whisky in the vicinity. At least we have some clue about his whereabouts thanks to the phone Geet found.
The question was, why didn’t she tell him? He pursed his lips and growled, because she was an obstinate hard headed nutcase, that’s why. Then he remembered the grave fear in her eyes as she had realised that Singhania was single mindedly focused on killing him. He knew she was trying to protect him. But that wasn’t her job. It was his. He was the one who should be looking after everyone, he was the one responsible for this whole debacle, by not letting Singhania win that first bid that had made him such a dangerous enemy for life. But he hadn’t known that he was a completely insane cold blooded killer then.
Sighing deeply, he groaned to himself. Perhaps he shouldn’t have been so angry with her, he recalled her tear filled eyes. But her propensity to head for trouble scared the hell out of him. No. He had every right to be angry with her. Sitting back he kept his eyes peeled for Singhana.
“Please hurry we cant be far.” Geet urged the driver.
“Madam the traffic is really bad, I cant go any faster. Why is everybody so impatient nowadays?”The taxi man grumbled back to her.
“How far is it from here?” Geet glared at his back.
“Probably another five-ten minutes.”
“Tou why didn’t you say! We will walk – how much is it?”
She paid him the fare and they all filed out running towards the junction which the taxi driver had indicated.
“Geet! There are so many people here, how will ever find SSK?” Pinky huffed as she keep up with them. In-fact people were all making way for them as Mrs Chaddha with her ample size and determined glint in her eye (and of-course helped by the fact that the banana’s on her kaftan were glowing a wild neon yellow In the dark) strode out in front parting the crowds like Moses for them.
“I am sure we will find him.” Geet replied firmly. She was not going to let anything happen to him.
“But…. huh huh huh… G..Geet when you find him and go up to him- I might just hide because he told me to make sure you stayed in the office and went straight home after that.”
“Adi! After all Mrs Chaddha said you are still worried about that?” Geet threw at him. But in fact she was worried herself how Maan would react when he saw her there, along with not only Adi and Pinky but Mrs Chaddha in full glow.
“Mrs Chaddha, there he is! That’s Maan’s car.” Geet whispered loudly and came to a complete stop. Making Pinky and Adi almost bump into her.
As Mrs Chaddha made to go forward, Geet held her back. “If he sees us here he will bundle us into the nearest taxi and make us ALL go home, best thing we stand back and watch out for him”
Remembering Maan’s attitude at her house Mrs Chaddha nodded in agreement. Ok Geet whatever you say, now that I know he is safe for now we will just blend into the scenery.”
Pinky, Geet and Adi stared at Mrs Chaddha and tried not to laugh at her statement – there was no way she was blending into the scenery unless she stood next to a fruit laari- and even then she would sick out like a sore thumb.
“Errrrr.. everyone act normal,” Geet suggested, “lets split up so we can blend in better. Pinky and Mrs Chaddha you go that way.” She suggested where the crowd was thickest in the hope of hiding Mrs Chaddha. Adi you stay here with me its a good vantage point.” She stepped back into the awning of a clothes shop, Adi following and then suddenly blushing ran to the next shop as he saw it was a bra and chaddi shop. Pinky giggled as she went off with Mrs Chaddha towards the crowd.
Singhania hid himself behind a door. That was definitely one of Major Saab’s men he decided. “Damn it they reached before I could get away. No matter….” he muttered, “lets see who else is on my trail. Hiding behind people and in doorways he followed Captain Veer Singh along Hanuman gali. Somewhere in the middle he saw the captain talk to a young woman.
“So Agent Gupta is also here. I wonder where Major Saab is and more importantly where Maan Singh khurana is? He cant be far off.” Thieving a monkey topi from a stall he pulled it over his head even though it was boiling hot. He left the agents enquiring in various shops and headed towards the main junction.
In the car…..
Maan peered at the junction of Hanuman gali. “Nothing! Its been almost an hour…no sign of Singhania or the back up team.” Feeling the sweat roll down his back he shifted and looked around and made an inarticulate noise of shock.
Was that……Pinky? He could see the side profile of a woman standing among the crowd with two plates of gol guppas, trying to balance them both and eat at the same time. He was sure it was her! The rate she was stuffing down the puri’s it had to be her he thought. Suddenly out of the crowd emerged another very familiar shape.
He stared harder, maybe he was seeing things. But next to her Adi came and stood.
“WHAT THE!” Maan growled. “I told him to keep her in the office!”
But he knew it wasn’t Adi’s fault. Geet would have rail roaded him into coming here.
“Pinky!” Geet moaned, “what are you doing and where is Mrs Chaddha?”
“Errrrrrrrrr” Pinky looked shamefaced as she stared down at her plates of gol guppa, after all they were supposed to be here to save Maan. “Errrrrrrr you told us to blend in…so I was.”
“Huh huh huh!” Adi laughed as Pinky finished off the last four in rapid succession and threw the plates in a nearby bin. “Geet why don’t you have some? They’re are really tasty.”
“I am supposed to be looking out for Maan not stuffing myself with Gol guppas.”
“We are all looking out for him, aren’t we…and you must be hungry too.”
“No not really” her stomach was growling but she ignored it. “Errr…Mrs Chaddha?”
“She said she had to go attend to some business.”
“Go where? Home?”
“Don’t know but I think she meant gooooo!” Pinky blushed nodding her head and staring at Geet hinting away as Adi looked on very puzzled.
“Oh!” Geet clicked.
“Err Ok.” Geet said and then heaved a sigh of relief as she saw Mrs Chaddha ambling towards them with a huge grin on her face, behind her there was a small commotion of sorts.
Maan stared even harder.
“NO WAY! BANANA’S nooooooooo it cant be! What is SHE doing with them? This is not going to be good….no this really is not.” Sinking back into his seat he just stared at the four of them.
“OK you all now concentrate. Adi, Pinky (if you have quite finished eating) Mrs Chaddha, the two of us will go that way and you two,” pointing to Adi and Pinky, “go that way. I don’t want Maan to catch us all together.”
They all turned to go their separate ways…too late. As they looked back to the car they could plainly see the very furious face of Maan staring straight at them.
Singhania couldn’t believe his luck. He saw the posh car from quite far away. It had to be his. Who else would be parked in this god forsaken place in such a smart car. Smiling thinly he stealthy advanced towards it.
“Jackpot!” He muttered under his breath. And it looked like Maan Singh Khuarana wasn’t even looking his way. Not believing his luck he dipped his hand in his inside pocket and pulled out a nasty looking Smith and Wesson handgun.
“Like shooting fish in barrel!” Singhania sniggered as he crept up to Maan’s car and quietly pulled the handle slipping inside silent as a snake into the back seat.
“Well! Maan Singh Khurana I didn’t think it would be this easy! So we meet again!”
Maan whipped his head around to stare into the business end of a nasty looking gun held by man HE was supposed to be hunting down.
The smug grin on Singhania’s thin hard face didn’t quite meet the deadly chill in his eyes.
