Chap 63

“Geet did you bring all the paperwork? I think Adi had some files for me too?” Mann glanced at her as they drove towards the site.

“Yes, Adi, Pinky and I have gathered everything. We have made list of things pending from last time making sure we look at each and everyone before we give the all clear.”

“Good. Can you pull out the contractors file, I just want you read out the last few figures.”

Glancing at the back seat. “Which one Maan?”

He glanced at the back, “that one.”

She leaned into the back and her sleeve top shifted.

“This one?” she held it up.

His eyes homed in on her arm. Shock hit his gut. Did…did he do that to her? Deep inside her, in the throes of passion whilst he feasted on her breasts, he remembered his hands holding hers over her head as she writhed wildly beneath him. Sucking in a deep breath he braked hard and pulled over to the side. His arm snaked out and ever so gently he took hold of her arm and pulled the sleeve up exposing the dark red finger marks that stood out on her fair skin.

Pain filled his eyes. “Did I do this too you?” He turned away abruptly as if unable to look at his handy work, he was nothing but an animal.

“No!” The shocked reply burst from her.

“Why are you are lying to me? I am so sorry Mishty.” Pain filled his face and he put his lips to the marks and kissed them softly.

“It..wasn’t you, Maan believe me. Even when you were so passionate last night you never hurt me. You know your limits, it was Anwar.”

“Anwar!” The word exploded out of his mouth. He looked at her with incredulity.

“Geet!” What happened? I want to know everything.”

“He tried to….” She saw the murderous look in his eye and decide to stop there. “ Don’t worry Maan, I have left him with something to remember if he comes near me again.”

“He tried to …..? What? Damn it Geet! Why do you not tell me these things! I am going to kill him.” Anwar had actually tried to molest her? His whole body tensed.

“That’s exactly what I am afraid of!”

“So you think I shouldn’t do anything, sit idly by whilst he hurts you? Tries to molest you! You should have called me straight away!” he was ready to explode.

“I told you, I dealt with it in my own way!” her eyes pleaded with him, why didn’t he just leave it, it would just cause him more pain to even think about it.

“I bet you were nice to him? Telling to leave you alone in your kind manner.” His eyes blazed with anger, hands clenching and unclenching on the steering wheel as if they were tearing Anwar apart.

“Errr I …I..”

“What!”

“I pushed him into a cupboard and flipped him over onto the floor.”

His head turned and he looked at her with surprise, slowly the anger was replaced by a smile which turned into a gurgle, he threw back his head and laughed. It was such joy to see him laugh without a care, Geet’s eyes filled with love.

“Mishty I hope you hurt him! Damn! I wish I had been there!” his eyes sparkled at her.

“I am glad you weren’t, he might not have got away with just a sprained back and a headache, anyway I don’t want to talk about it any more. I am really excited to see the site. Maan….we have built this together…through all the trouble and everything, we have managed to finish something solid. Its a reflection of how strong our love is.”

His eye lit up with love for her, reflecting hers, beaming with happiness he turned the key to start the engine to pull back out into the road to drive on to the site.

The engine sputtered, and coughed. He tried again and again with no luck.

“Maan?” Annoyed at the turn of events she glared.

His lips pursed and he groaned. “Damn it Geet!” he stared back at her with a dark pointed look.

“Its not my fault! I didn’t ask you to pull over.”

Giving her a hard stare, he climbed out of the car and pulled up the bonnet. She followed him and watched as he poked about the engine, cursing as the hot temperature burned his fingers.

“Lagta hai kachra bhaar gaya hai somewhere.”He looked around at the lonely road, although it was only late afternoon no cars had passed them.

“If I remember rightly I think there is a dhabba a little way up this road maybe we can call for a tow from there or get a taxi.” Geet muttered.

Wiping his hands on his clean hanky he nodded, securing the car they started walking. The sky was gathering rain clouds but they were still further away, and the Sun’s warm rays danced off the tarmac.

“Our car always breaks down in the middle of nowhere every time I am with you?” he muttered his eyes glanced at her filled with accusation as if he was resigned to his fate.

“Chaddo! Even kaachra in tank is my fault!”

“I didn’t say that. Geet why do you twist everything?”

“OH! Maan you are so annoying!”

“So, I am annoying now, am I? And you who jump into every sort of trouble going are quite sane!”

“Huh! What are you saying? I get into trouble?” It was too much for Geet.

“Yes you and that god forsaken village of yours..Rupamnagar…Ramnagar…oh damn that completely pagal village and mad road from hell!”

“Its RUPNAGAR!” she said walking fast and furiously away from him.

“Stop now!”

Hands on hips she rounded on him, sparks flying from her eyes, about to launch into a massive argument with him.

“Mishty, I mean stop now, we are here..at the dhabba!” he said calmly, grinning at her he watched as she realised that he had been baiting her all along. His eyes were filled with mirth and heat.

Walking right up to her he said, “Waise Mishty, I just want to say…after last night…there is one thing I just love doing with you a lot….” His voiced dropped low, to almost a caress.

That look melted her ,dissolving her anger completely, her voice turned into a soft whisper at the heated look in his eyes, “W..what? A lot?” A soft pink blush rose on her cheeks.

“Arguing! Your eyes spark and your chin sets at such a stubborn angle.” The sexy lopsided grin was almost her undoing.

At her dumbfounded expression he laughed, the sexy smile lit up his face and he grinned “Eerr Mishty what else did you think I meant?” His expression so innocent.

“Chaddo!” Eyes blazing, she growled at him getting annoyed at herself for being completely taken in by his baiting.

“I am going to get something to eat, I didn’t get any breakfast.” Throwing him a mock angry look she went off to where they were serving tea and food to see.

“HERE! You want to eat here? Geet, don’t eat here, you will get sick.” He followed her trying to make her see reason.

“Uff Maan you are so khadoos, nothing will happen.”

She approached the large Sardarji sitting on a cushion on a raised platform.

“Bhaiyya kuch khana milaga?”

“Behenji, haan aaye ayye , Saabji ayye sab kuch hai aapka. Oy u pull out a khattiya.” he shouted to a young man. “Dekho Saab and Madamji hai.”

Maan looked at him dubiously, the large chubby Sardarji was grinning from ear to ear and sweating like he had burst a water mains in his body. “Really Geet you want to eat here?”

Without even glancing at him she reeled off her order. “Do parathe, aloo gobi, dal makhni, chicken methi, raita aur pyaaj with limbu le aana.” The man ran off beaming.

He looked at her slim form incredulously, “Are you planning to feed everyone here?”

“Kyu. are you not hungry?”

“Not for this food.” His stomach churned at the thought.

“Tumne khabhi taste nahi kiya iss liye you are saying that. Once you taste it you will love it.” He watched her as she licked her lips in anticipation.

Looking around he very much doubted that. His face turned almost green as he watched a man lick his fingers and arm after a huge meal and rinse out his mouth spitting it all out not more than two paces away from him.

“Kuch nahi hoga Maan.” She reassured him grinning at the look on his face.

“Err Bhaiyya…” Maan called out as the sardarji came back after giving their order to the cook, “is there a mechanic or taxi service we can get from here? Our car broke down less than a mile back, I need to get it fixed.”

“You are in luck Saabji, my brother is a mechanic, let me call him. Where did you say the car had broken down?”

Maan explained the details. “Saabji, you don’t worry, he will fix it whilst you eat. He is a very good mechanic, and mere dhabba ka khaana is laajawab!”

Shooting him a totally irritated look he stopped the Sardarji gushing in his tracks, “Err haan I will get on with it straight away.” The Sardarji muttered walking away quickly.

“Damn it!” He glanced at his watch, “I really wanted to get back by evening. I am not sure how Adi and Pinky will cope with daadima all day!” he didn’t want daadima to be alone with Ajeet and Anwar all night at home.

He pulled out his mobile to call Adi to see that there was no signal. His eyes turned dark with frustration.

“Ah!” Geet smiled, grinning as the waiter brought their order. Laying the food out on a small table in front of her, “Oh it looks delicious!” She glanced at him as he paced here and there trying to get a signal.

“Sit down Maan and eat something, by the time we get to the site and back you will be famished otherwise.”

“I am fine”, he growled with frustration unable to get a signal he sat down next to her and promptly fell backwards on the rope bed.

“What the…!” he jack-knifed back up, sitting awkwardly, glaring at the bed, thanking his stars that there was no one around them to see.

Giggling, Geet picked up some food from her plate and offered it to him with her fingers. Her eyes warm and loving. Their eyes met, instantly the heat between them re-ignited and he opened his mouth to her offering with out any conscious thought, completely mesmerised by her soft amber eyes. He didn’t taste what she fed him, only the taste of her fed his senses. Without breaking eye contact she fed him bite after bite, her fingers blindly reaching for the food on her plate until her fingers couldn’t find any more on her plate to feed him with.

With a surprised glance at her plate she saw he had finished everything on her plate. “See! I told you, you will like it Maan,” She softly said.

His eyes turned dark, almost black, “It wasn’t the food I was tasting.” Sooty fringed eyes of his told her everything without uttering a word.

“Maan! Stop it!” Blushing she turned away from his intense gaze.

A loud hoot from their car broke the spell. They saw their car pull up and a replica of the Sardarji got out of it and went towards his brother.

“Oh, the car is here!” Geet groaned making to jump up looking at the other full plate with a sigh.

“Mishty, its not going make much difference if we are a few more minutes” he commanded, “Stay seated and finish your food, you haven’t eaten all day. Waise….I would feed you but I think that man over there with his mouth open would probably faint.” He grinned. “I am going to go and pay for the repair.”

Making sure she resumed eating, he went to pay, watching the goings on at the dhabba wondering how Pinky and Adi were doing.

At that precise moment Pinky and Adi were not doing well at all. Savitridevi had them practically pinned to a wall.

“What IS going on here? Why are you giving me excuses and keeping me busy? Adi? Pinky? What precisely did Maan say?”

“Err Maan sir said for you to stay in the office, they will be back soon and then you will be able to go home.”

“Adi! Why cant I go home now? This is ridiculous!” Pulling out her phone she stabbed at the number for Maan but all she got was a message. “This is nonsense! I am going home now!”

“Daadima…!” Adi called out as Savitridevi started to walk out of the office. He ran after her trying to come up with some excuse, to see her stop and stare at Major Saab who was just walking in.

“Major Saab! How nice to see you again. What are you doing here?” Savitridevi questioned with a welcoming smile.

“My Dearest Savitridevi, you are a sight for sore eyes.” Major Saab greeted her with panache, quite the charmer, taking in her regal cream saree and natural poise.

“Aab to bhanda phoot ne wala hai!” Moaned Adi to Pinky, dread filling his face.

“I have all the reports Maan wanted.” Major Saab indicated the files in his hand.

“Reports?” Savitridevi’s brow creased. What kind of reports had Maan requested from Major Saab, she knew the kind of people he investigated were criminals and murderers usually.

“Haan,” Major Saab looked around, the office was as usual a hub of efficiency, then he spotted Adi and pinky just behind Savitridevi, looking very pale.

“Where is Maan? Its urgent I speak to him. I cant get hold of him on his mobile so I thought he may be here in a meeting.”

“Err nahi..Major Saab, he has gone out to the site, the network there is not very reliable in that area.” Adi worried anytime now Savitridevi was going to know all.

“Perhaps its for the best.” Pinky hissed to him.

“Maan sir will kill me!” Adi said pushing up his glasses with a worried finger. But where was Maan sir?

Major Saab looked very worried for a moment, then he came to a decision as he looked at Savitridevi. “Please come with me Savitridevi, Adi, Pinky, I think you will need to see and hear this. Adi can we go into your office?”

“Maan’s office is bigger,” Savitridevi said. Nodding Adi led the way. They all followed him in. Both Pinky and Adi kept a close watch on Savitridevi, they knew what she was about to hear would be a utter shock. Savitridevi settled down on the sofa, Major Saab stood for a moment looking at her face.

“What I am about to tell you will be a shock. But there is no two ways about it. Maan is not reachable so I will have to tell you.”

They all looked at him with bated breath.

“Ajeet and Anwar have been kidnapped.”

Savitridevi paled and made a strangled sound in her throat.

“But before we run into why, and who. I would like you to read this evidence my team have been compiling about Ajeet and Anwar.”

Her hand shook ever so slightly, almost imperceptibly to people who didn’t know her well would have missed it completely. She opened the file and stared to read. Her face paled as she read on, her eyes scanning, interpreting the facts and figures quickly. Major Saab gave her an admiring glance, no wonder Maan was as he was, his daadima, the woman who had brought him up was one hell of a lady. Finally she finished and closed the file with a finality that had them all staring at her in awe.

“Is this all true, beyond any doubt?” At Major Saab’s confirming nod she gathered herself sitting upright her back straight as an arrow. “If a ransom note arrives tear it up and throw it in the bin!”

Her eyes were moist as they glittered brightly with pain, hurt and betrayal, but not by a word or action did she show how this had shattered her world.

Hiyaa Jane ( sorry ji I never quite understood the second half of your name:P)

I don’t know where to begin ! I’m so damn late and honestly have no rightful reason ! I have been following u for 63 Sunday’s and still many to come I’m sure of …And yet I never gave you any sort of feedback …
Your writing as always, most of the times evoked such enthusiasm in me that I wanted to get my thoughts across straight away to you. But sometimes due to time, place or sth else it never happened!

So for 63 weeks of silence, I kindly apologise … I hope this one first comment gives you enough satisfaction as a writer to understand me as your reader and let’s you accept my praises that I am about to write of you 🙂

The Phoenix Rises is beyond any other Maaneet fiction I have read … True, there are so many other writers who I follow, love and appreciate ..
Yet I found this work of yours to have captured the actual core of the protagonists so well into your own concept that if ever there is a Geet Hui Sab Se Parayi to be made again … The Phoenix Rises would be the only and most fitting story line !
You have the best blend of everything :
… A tadkaa of family drama
…The real essence of Maaneet Nok jhoks
…Perfect traits of character-defining principles, not only in Maan and Geet but of every character! A small example in the latest chapter given (63)is of Daadima…
The Regal poised statuesque at the Helm of Khuraana Khaandaan held her strength together amidst the bitter betrayal she just learnt of !!

The above are things you fine tuned from the original ghsp concept and made better but the best is your own:
…Firstly the story line !! There is so much of strength in it, a perfect web of love, romance and family Saga! Such meaty climaxes filled with thick dialogues, emotions and clear cut visualisation!
…Second are the moments you created for Maan and Geet .. from the very first scene of the Samosa bite frozen at the corner of Geet’s lips — to the last of gasps which escaped from her mouths in those exemplary throes of passionate moments ! And yet there is more to come !! And I eagerly wait for the spell binding magic of Maaneet in every chapter..
    * On a side note I must add I’m a very shy reader of such vivacious passionate imaginations! But the climax you built up to the wedding and their very first moments of togetherness are no less than a touch of class!! Literally for me I think its like a Yash Raj Banner style type class! Hehee

…Another thing is the space you have given to every character to grow in your story … Their personalities might not be completed explored but you give just enough flavour of them to understand how they protray such a role or justify why they do such an act in the story … Adi, Pinky,Ashok and Sunita Shah, Babli are just a few of the main examples !

Lastly, I have a particular weak and attentive spot for writing styles …
The fluidity with which your words flow and with it they carry a scent of freshness …is literally like water and pearls…..as transparent, strong and lucid like water and as fresh and beautifully pure like pearls …

I have so much more to say as I remember so much from so many chapters that became my favourites topics of muse every week in and out !! I must say that this journey of being your reader has been an amazing experience ..though I admit I have not followed any of your other stories; only because I felt guilty to not respond to this One ! Let alone have the burden of more ! I remember there were times where I didn’t read even the Phoenix” for a few weeks due to life struggles lol but I always knew I had to come back ! Since your page is the only page alongside india-forum (GHSP-forum) which I have bookmarked.
I think I found a link to your blog from one of forum threads and I’m indebted to them for that …I have found such talent and diversity in this small world of Maaneet that I know that it will alway be enough for me to not look elsewhere!

Last note * Shukr! I made you read so much !! Thank you for sharing your creativity, talent and Time ! So precious all these things are and I hope with time the views only reach hundreds of thousands ..

Warmest regards from one of your fan-readers amongst many.

PS- it would be kind of you to recommend any other reads you are following on the forum. Thank you Ji..
